5 + 2 = 5000 + 12
Our sermon today was a story we've all heard dozens of times, but I story that's so important that you cannot zone out while hearing it. This story is found in the 6th chapter in the book of John (it's also found in Matthew and Mark). Jesus's fame is quickly spreading throughout the region. The spiritually hungry people find Jesus, having love for them, decides to give them another sermon for their souls. After preaching for a while the disciples came up to Him and suggested sending the people away to they could go and find food to eat. Jesus looked at them and said "you feed them". They were at a loss. There were five thousand men per scripture but that figure didn't include any wives and children that could have been with them. One of the disciples quickly deduced it would take 6 months wages for everyone that to just have a bite of food. But Andrew started to understand what was possible by bringing a boy forward willing to donate his lunch he brought. But he didn't fully believe that Jesus feed everyone with 5 five small loaves of bread and 2 small fish. Even after watching he Rabbi turn water into wine but just couldn't see the He could do the same with this meager lunch.
